African Bishops´ Conference visits COMECE
Africa and Europe are bound together by history, geography and a common destiny. They also share a community of values on which the Bishops from Africa and Europe wish to build. To mark this close relationship, COMECE received a delegation from the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) led by its President, H.E. Gabriel Mbilingi, Archbishop of Lubango (Angola).
The Vice-President of SECAM, H.E. Sithembele Sipuka, Bishop of Umtata (South Africa), the General Secretary, Fr. Joseph Komakoma, and his Deputy Secretary General, Fr. Samuel de Jesus, were also part of the delegation.
They exchanged with the General Secretary of COMECE, Br Olivier Poquillon, o.p., on their respective work concerning the European Union and African Union and on possibilities to reinforce partnerships across continents. They also discussed issues related to peace, social justice, development, trade, migration and the management of natural resources.
