Cardinal Marx’s statement on terror attacks in Catalonia

President of COMECE, Cardinal Marx, conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Archbishop of Barcelona, Cardinal Juan José Omella, and to the relatives of the victims of the shocking terror attacks that took place yesterday in the region of Catalonia, Spain, injuring more than 100 people and killing 14 people.

In his message, Cardinal Marx shared his deepest sympathy with the families of the victims, “people who had family and friends, dreams and visions, […] people torn off without warning and without cause by shocking and brutal attacks carried our by terrorists of the self-proclaimed Islamic State”.

While inviting the community of States to continue thinking about how to stop this form of terror, Cardinal Marx stressed that “killing in the name of religion is unbearable”.

He also emphisized the importance of the cohesion of our societies. “Christians are called to respect each other, to oppose destructive ideologies and stand up for human dignity and solidarity”, he said.
