Press Conference on Monday 20 April 2009 at 2.30 pm ?Solidarity ? the Challenge for Europe? Presentation of the programme and objectives of the First ?Catholic Social Days for Europe?
500 to 600 Catholics from all over Europe will gather for this event in Gdansk, the city of Solidarnosc. The Press Conference will present the aims and purpose of this meeting which will offer the opportunity for Christians to meet and discuss EU politics from the perspective of the social teaching of the Church. This European ?encounter? will develop orientations on the future of the European Union. A particular effort is being made to involve the young generation.

Press Release - 12 November 2002 Following the kidnap on Monday 11 November of Bishop Jorge Enrique Jiménez Carvajal, Bishop of Zipaquirá (Colombia) and President of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), the Secretary General of COMECE today asked European Union leaders to do whatever they can to help secure the safe and prompt release of Bishop Jiménez and Father Desiderio Orjuela, who was abducted with him.

COMECE dismayed that the European Parliament promotes the instrumentalisation and destruction of human embryos

On 15 June 2006, the European Parliament voted in first reading on the 7th Research Framework Programme and called for EU funding of research with human embryos and human embryonic stem cells. At the first meeting of its kind, bishops from the Commission of the Bishops? Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) and from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) came together to reflect upon some of the world?s major problems within the context of the transatlantic relationship. The meeting took place from 21-23 September 2005 in Brussels.
