The President of the European Parliament receives the visit of the "Three Kings" Children

COMECE Press 12/01/2010

COMECE General Secretary Fr Piotr Mazurkiewicz today accompanied a group of "Carol Singers"  (Sternsinger) who came to bring the Three King's blessing to the President of the European Parliament. The group of 11 girls and boys from Aachen (Germany) greeted Mr Jerzy Buzek in Polish and, after singing some carols, they wrote the sign « C+M+B » (Christus mansionem benedicat - Christ bless this home) on the door of the main entrance of the European Parliament in Brussels. They had earlier brought the same blessing to the COMECE House.

According to German tradition, around the 6th January each year, more than 500,000 Carol Singers nationwide go round their neighbourhoods dressed as «three Kings » and follow the star. In almost all Catholic parishes the children bring a blessing to the people by writing the sign 'C+M+B' on doors and collecting donations for poor children from all over the world.

COMECE is happy to support for the third time this Christian tradition, which at the same time allows children to raise funds for other children. Since its beginning in 1959, the Carol Singers' Campaign has developed into the biggest solidarity movement by children for children worldwide. Over 690 million Euros have been collected since then, in support of projects in the fields of pastoral work, education, health, nutrition, social integration and rehabilitation, and relief. This year, the Campaign has the slogan « Children on the Move - Utub yoon bu bees » and Senegal is the focus country.
