Bishop Franc Šuštar was born on 27 April 1959 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He studied Theology in Ljubljana and in Rome at the Pontifical College Germanicum. He was ordained a priest in Ljubljana on 29 June 1985. He completed his studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 1990 with a doctorate on the new evangelization.
After completing his studies and his ordination, he served as a chaplain and parish priest in various parishes. He was rector of the seminary in Ljubljana during 14 years. In his priest ministry he was involved in various diocesan councils and commissions, especially in the field of spiritual vocations.
On 7 February 2015, he has been appointed by Pope Francis as auxiliary Bishop of Ljubljana. His episcopal ordination took place on 15 March 2015. In the Archdiocese of Ljubljana he fulfilled the duties of Vicar General .
In June 2015 Mgr Šuštar became a member of COMECE.
