What are the priorities for funding peace-building in 2017?

The discussion mainly focused on preventing violent extremism, strengthening the role of civil society in the security sector and the importance of peace education.
With regard to prevention of violent extremism, COMECE supports a cross-sectoral approach recognising the complex nature of this phenomenon. From the perspective of pre-emptive peacebuilding, initiatives addressing its social, economic and political roots should be promoted alongside projects fostering inclusive local communities and people-to-people contacts. The role of religious leaders and the value of dialogue between cultures and religions should also be given due recognition and support.
