NEWS | COMECE Legal Affairs Commission holds its second meeting of the year

19 September - The COMECE Legal Affairs Commission held its second meeting of 2024, with a strong focus on legislation combating child sexual abuse, which was analysed in collaboration with national Church experts. Members also discussed the new GDPR report and the application of the principle of subsidiarity with EU officials. In this context, the Commission members expressed concerns about the need for better compliance with the subsidiarity principle. The meeting was presided over by Mgr. Hoogenboom.

9 September - As part of the Season of Creation, which culminates on 4 October, the European Laudato Si’ Alliance (ELSiA) invites you to two special events focused on water management, taking place on 1-2 October 2024 in Brussels.
We invite you to the opening of Burnt Landscapes, an exhibition by French painter Claire Forgeot. Her artwork, deeply influenced by the devastation of burnt landscapes and the severe scarcity of water, offers a striking reflection on the environmental crises we face today. The vernissage will take place on Tuesday, 1 October.
The day after, on Wednesday, 2 October, you are invited to participate in the half-day conference "Too Much, Too Little", which will allow you to dive deeper into the global water challenges. Registration is mandatory.

The Mass will take place at the Chapel for Europe (Brussels), on Tuesday, 24 September 2024, at 19:00 (CET). No registration is required.

4 September - The COMECE Secretariat is pleased to welcome its two new interns, Zsófia Tósoky from Hungary and Henrique Gomes e Silva from Brazil. They were selected in the context of our recent internship programme call. Over the coming months, they will contribute to the work of the COMECE Secretariat, focusing on External Affairs, Education, Youth, Social Affairs, and Justice & Fundamental Rights. 2 September - In a recent tweet, the COMECE Secretariat extended warm congratulations to Martin Selmayr on his appointment as EU Ambassador to the Holy See. "We look forward to meeting with you and continuing the excellent collaboration we enjoyed with Ambassador Alexandra Valkenburg, whom we thank for her commitment to strengthening EU-Church relations," the tweet read.

18 September - L'Ufficio Nazionale per la pastorale della salute is organising a conference on health inequalities in Europe. The event will take place in Rome, at the Pontifical Lateran University, on Friday 22nd November 2024, from 14:00 to 19:00 (CET). The list of speakers also includes Cardinal Pietro Parolin (Secretary of State, Holy See), Mgr Mariano Crociata (President of COMECE), and Mario Draghi (former President of the European Central Bank). The programme is still being developed. Further information, including the final list of speakers, will be shared in the coming weeks.
