12 August - Archbishop Noël Treanor, Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium, at the age of 73. COMECE President Mgr. Crociata: “We have lost a true man of dialogue who passionately and creatively accompanied EU integration from a Catholic perspective.”

16 August - A Mass corpore insepulto for Archbishop Noël Treanor was held on Friday, 16 August 2024, at the Church of Our Lady of Victories at the Sablon in Brussels. The Mass was presided over by Cardinal Jozef De Kesel. The Mass was concelebrated by Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich S.J., Monsignor Mariano Crociata, Monsignor Lode Aerts, Monsignor Virgil Bercea, Monsignor Leo Wagener, Monsignor Itaruma, and Prelate Karl Jüsten.

20 August - The Solemn Requiem Mass of Archbishop Noël Treanor, Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union, was celebrated on Tuesday, 20 August, 2024, at St Peter’s Cathedral, Belfast. The Mass was followed by burial in the Cathedral Chapel of the Resurrection. The full video recording of the requiem funeral mass is available here.

22 August - This month, our ‘Christian Heritage month by month’ column presents the chapel of the Virgin Mary of Kambily, in the Maronite Archeparchy of Cyprus. The chapel of the Virgin Mary (Panayia of Kambily) is located in Kambily, a small village on the Southern slopes of the Pentadaktylos mountain range in Cyprus. It is a small, single-aisled church with a dome, built in the 13th century. Internally, it was decorated with frescoes from the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries, of which few remain visible today.
