STATEMENT | “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!”

10/10 - In the context of the current dramatic and devastating events unfolding in the Holy Land, the President of COMECE, H.E. Mgr. Mariano Crociata, expressed on behalf of the EU Bishops prayerful closeness and solidarity with the families of all the victims of the massive attacks targeting innocent civilians in Israel.
|
Sharing Pope Francis’ sorrowful concern for this grave situation, Mgr. Crociata also called on all parties involved to cease the attacks, release the kidnapped hostages and halt the spiral of violence.
|
He equally appealed to the international community, including the European Union, to make every effort to contribute to a de-escalation of the situation, while ensuring the fundamental rights of all people in the region and respecting the historical and legal Status Quo of all the Holy Shrines.

NEWS | COMECE Social Affairs Commission discusses solidarity-based policies to combat poverty in the EU
|
|
12/10 - H.E. Mgr. Joseph Galea-Curmi presided over the autumn meeting of our Social Affairs Commission. In dialogue with EU institutions representatives, the members of the Commission focused on bolstering solidarity-based policies to combat poverty within the European Union.

YOUTH | COMECE Youth Platform to prepare toolkit in view of 2023 EU elections

10/10 - The COMECE Youth Platform met to exchange on democracy, participation and disinformation with Prof. Steven van Hecke. The meeting was an opportunity to shape the toolkit the Platform is preparing in view of the 2024 EU elections. Stay tuned for more updates!

21/09 - COMECE encourages Catholic dioceses and organisations across Europe to participate in the European Laudato Si’ Alliance (ELSiA) survey, which aims to gain an understanding of how Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter “Laudato Si'” has been received across Europe and the initiatives it has inspired.

09/10 - The documentary 'Canillitas' was screened at the Secretariat of COMECE in collaboration with Don Bosco International and Misiones Salesianas. The documentary narrates the daily problems and aspirations of six child workers in the Dominican Republic who dream of leaving behind their work and becoming good professionals. The film sheds light on the issue of child labour in the Dominican Republic while showcasing the efforts of the Salesian Missionaries in supporting these children as they strive to achieve their dreams.

Manuel Barrios Prieto, received Sabine B Frank, Executive Director of Carbon Market Watch, an independent research organisation with expertise in carbon pricing. Among the topics discussed, Pope Francis's recently published Apostolic Exhortation "Laudate Deum".

STATEMENT | CCEE Presidency releases statement on the humanitarian emergency in Nagorno Karabakh
|
|
10/10 - The Presidency of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences (CCEE) released a statement to express concern at the humanitarian emergency in Nagorno Karabakh. The Bishops appeal “for dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia in view of a lasting agreement that puts the human person at the centre".
