07/12 - The European Laudato Si’ Alliance (ELSiA), together with COMECE and JESC, held a successful conference aimed to better understand the importance of Pope Francis’ message in rediscovering our vocation as guardians of Creation and restoring a harmonious relationship between humanity and Creation.
|
The event featured the participation of Fr. Xavier De Bénazé SJ, Delegate “Laudato Si’” of the Jesuit French-Speaking Province, Josianne Gauthier, Secretary General of CIDSE, and Marie Toussaint, member of the European Parliament.

04/12 - H.E. Mgr. Mariano Crociata and Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, President and General Secretary of COMECE respectively, participated in the XXV Annual EPP Group Intercultural Dialogue with Churches and Religious Institutions that took place in Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Among the many inputs, Mgr. Crociata said that "when engaged in genuine dialogue, religions remind all of us that without ideals and horizons broader than merely material ones, there is no human society that can endure".

NEWS | Commission on Migration and Asylum discusses EU Pact on Migration and legislation on Labour Migration

07/12 - Bishop Jozef Hal'ko chaired the autumn session of our Commission on Migration and Asylum. The gathering featured dialogue meetings with representatives of the institutions of the European Union on the negations around the EU Pact on Migration and the recast of two EU directives on Labour Migration.

30/11 - Following his participation in the Plenary Assembly of the Council of the Bishops' Conferences of Europe (CCEE) held in Malta, Mgr. Mariano Crociata, President of COMECE, was interviewed by Aci Stampa. The Bishop highlighted some of the most pressing challenges of the European Union, especially in the current international context and in view of the 2024 elections of the European Parliament.

Manuel Barrios Prieto, General Secretary of COMECE, highlighted the substantial contribution that Churches can offer to the EU in order to face challenges such as wars, Artificial Intelligence (AI), ecological transition and EU enlargement in an integral way.

06/12 - The relevance of Christian values for the European Union, especially in the context of the upcoming European elections in June 2024, was discussed by EU officials and representatives of Churches and Catholic NGOs in a meeting held at the Secretariat of COMECE in Brussels.
|
Organised by COMECE, together with the Conference of European Churches (CEC) and the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, the meeting featured a discussion on how Christian faith and values shape our daily life, behaviour and action, as well as on how they inspire and contribute to the legal proposals and policies of the European Union.

NEWS | Red Wednesday, "FoRB is an essential dimension of human dignity"

29/11 - During the Conference "Freedom of Religion in public space“, held in Prague by the Czech Foreign Affairs and Culture Ministries, the Czech Bishops' Conference and the Charles University, our adviser José Luis Bazán emphasised that "FoRB is an essential dimension of human dignity". The event took place during "Red Wednesday", when monuments across the country were illuminated in red to remembered those persecuted for their faith.
