04/04 - Following up to the successful first visit in 2020, the COMECE Legal Affairs Commission carried out a study visit to the Court of Justice of the EU, meeting extensively with Judges and Advocate Generals. The programme involved both formal and informal moments of exchange and dialogue and allowed some frank reflections on the state of the EU jurisprudence. A session of the COMECE Legal Affairs Commission followed the visit to the Court of Justice of the EU. The COMECE delegation to the Court was led by H.E. Mgr. Theodorus C.M. Hoogenboom.

04/03 - H.E. Mgr. Antoine Hérouard, Archbishop of Dijon and Vice-President of COMECE, shared his concerns about the recent inclusion of the voluntary interruption of pregnancy (abortion) in the French Constitution. Following a parliamentary vote, a constitutional amendment inserted a paragraph related to this issue into Article 34 of the Constitution.
"What we see today in European societies is an almost infinite demand for individual rights aimed at ensuring personal freedoms, [...] yet without considering the social and collective dimensions of these actions and their consequences on others", he stated.

01/03 - The European Sunday Alliance (ESA) issued a new manifesto stressing that “synchronised resting time is an effective tool to counter loneliness and highlights its importance for the mental health of workers”. The document was elaborated and issued in view of the European Day for a Work-free Sunday.
Furthermore, in the view of upcoming EU elections in June 2024, ESA called on Members of the European Parliament and candidates to the European Elections to support the Manifesto and recognise the value of the establishment of a weekly common day of rest at the EU level for all citizens. The initiative included a video campaign on social media.

29/02 - COMECE Adviser on Culture and Education, Emilio Dogliani, addressed the participants of the congress "La Iglesia en la Educación: presencia y compromiso" organised by the Spanish Bishops' Conference. He focused mainly on the EU dimension of the Catholic religion class. The event gathered around 1200 people and it was the culmination of a participative process on Catholic Education in Spain.

The meeting proved highly productive, offering valuable insights into each organisation's diverse initiatives and projects, fostering closer collaboration. The event was presided over by COMECE General Secretary, Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, and featured the participation of the Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union, H.E. Mgr. Noel Treanor.

29/02 - COMECE expressed its disappointment following the EU Council's lack of support for the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). A tweet from the organisation stated: 'We regret that the Council failed to adopt the Directive. We hope that the continued efforts of the Belgian EU Presidency will lead to a Due Diligence law that stops corporate abuse and guarantees global solidarity".

29/02 - Our Adviser Alessandro Calcagno contributed to the Shield Project Final Conference on the protection of places of worship in the European Union. "The key point remains the close link between protecting places of worship and full protection for the fundamental right to freedom of religion", he said.

The book offers valuable reflections supporting the European project, with contributions from Marco Zatterin (Vice-Director of La Stampa) and Enrico Letta (Director of Jacques Delors Institute). The event will take place on Thursday, 14 March 2024, at 18:45 (CET) in La Piola Piccola, Brussels, and will include a conversation between the author of the book and EUnews journalist Lorenzo Robustelli.
