28/03 - The President of the COMECE Social Affairs Commission, H.E. Mgr. Antoine Hérouard, presented the COMECE reflection paper on the Social Economy during a meeting held at the European Parliament and hosted by MEP Patrizia Toia. The document includes concrete proposals that, if implemented, could develop the full potential of the Social Economy in all EU Member States.

NEWS | Legal Affairs Commission: spotlight on Media Freedom Act, parenthood, equality and the rule of law

2-3/03 - H.E. Mgr. Theodorus C.M. Hoogenboom chaired our Legal Affairs Commission gathering legal experts from EU Bishops' Conferences. The meeting featured lively exchanges with EU officers on the proposed European Media Freedom Act, the Regulation on parenthood recognition, the EU rule of law toolbox and the proposal concerning strengthening equality bodies.

The legal experts also exchanged on Data Protection challenges and on trends and issues in the field of Freedom of Religion inside the European Union. The next meeting is to take place on 28-29 September 2023.

NEWS | COMECE Social Affairs Commission focuses on inflation, ethical investments and fiscal policy

27-28/02 - H.E. Mgr. Antoine Hérouard presided over the Spring meeting of the COMECE Social Affairs Commission, held in Brussels on 27-28 February 2023. The meeting focused on high inflation, ethical investment, public finance and fiscal policy. It featured the participation of high-level Vatican representatives, including Jean-Baptiste de Franssu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istituto per le Opere di Religione (IOR – Vatican Bank), and Maximino Caballero Ledo, Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy of the Vatican.

03/03 - On the occasion of the European Day for a Work-free Sunday, the European Sunday Alliance (ESA) releases a statement and launched a video campaign to reiterate its call on political leaders to “establish a synchronised quality and social resting weekly time for workers in order to enable them to preserve their mental health”
