ELSiA | Church and civil society organisations welcome the EP’s adoption of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive

The European Laudato Si' Alliance (ELSiA) and Pax Christi International welcome the European Parliament's adoption of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive on Friday, 2 June 2023. Download ELSiA Press Release

In a statement, the Alliance welcomes the EP adoption of the Directive on CSDDD, remaining "hopeful that the proposed text will be supported and strengthened in the course of the inter-institutional dialogue due to start next week".

On the same occasion, Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, General Secretary of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), stated: "This vote is an important first step towards a sustainable economy that serves people and respects the planet. We encourage the EU to uphold this ambition throughout upcoming negotiations”.

ELSiA is a network of Catholic organisations with the aim to adapt the comprehensive approach of the encyclical letter Laudato Si’ and related Church teachings to a European context with a special focus on the institutions of the European Union. COMECE is a founding member of COMECE.
