NEWS | COMECE and CEC hold prayer for peace and Christian unity at European Parliament

06/06 - To mark Pentecost, COMECE together with the Conference of European Churches (CEC) held a Prayer for Peace and Christian Unity at the European Parliament in Brussels.
|
In his contribution, the President of COMECE addressed the ongoing war in Ukraine and stated: “A justpeace has been the incessant and urgent request of the Church and of COMECE. I am sure that the European Parliament will continue to contribute to achieving this goal.
|
The COMECE-CEC joint initiative featured a reflection offered by Prof. Tomáš Halík on the beginnings of the Church at Pentecost as a “sacrament of understanding” and on its role in the current historical moment. The event was highly attended by MEPs, EU officers and representatives of Brussels-based Christian stakeholders. The event was hosted by MEP Jan Olbrycht.

Manuel Barrios Prieto met with Andrzej Sados, Polish Permanent Representative to the European Union, to discuss the contribution elaborated by COMECE, CELAM, Caritas Europa and Caritas Latin America and Caribbean to the upcoming EU-CELAC summit. 31/05 - While in Stockholm for the COMECE-CEC ecumenical delegation's meeting with the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the President of COMECE, Mgr. Mariano Crociata, spoke with the national press on migration and asylum EU policies, emphasising the need to respect the dignity and fundamental rights of migrants and asylum seekers at all stages of the process.

Mgr. Crociata also highlighted the positive contribution that Churches can give in strengthening unity in the EU, as well as tackling the phenomenon of loneliness.
