NEWS | EU Bishops empower young people and launch the COMECE Youth Net

Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ launched the COMECE Youth Net, a new consultative body that will accompany the work of the Secretariat of COMECE and be consulted on various policy dossiers, bringing the youth perspective in all dimensions of EU policymaking, as well young people’s diverse sensitivity on current political and social challenges. NEWS | Mgr. Hoogenboom chairs the COMECE Legal Affairs Commission

29-30/09 - H.E. Mgr. Theodorus Hoogenboom chaired the COMECE Legal Affairs Commission that gathered legal experts of the EU Episcopates to exchange with representatives of the EU Commission and academics on fighting online child sexual abuse, on primacy of EU law, cross-border family law, GDPR, Freedom of Religion in the EU and non-profit law. The next meeting of the Commission is to take place on 2-3 March 2023.

Manuel Barrios Prieto, General Secretary of COMECE, reiterated the Catholic Church's readiness "to work with the EU institutions for new models of production and consumption, for a fair DigitalTransition, a dignified salary, better social protection and a common weekly day of rest for all".

22/09 - Delegates of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union will hold the Autumn COMECE Plenary Assembly in Brussels on 12-14 October 2022 for an in-depth discussion on the socio-economic and geopolitical implications of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with a particular emphasis on the energy crisis.
The event will feature a dialogue meeting with Klaus Welle, Secretary-General of the European Parliament, an exchange with Pascal Lamy, former Director General of the World Trade Organisation and Coordinator of the Jacques Delors think tanks network, and Philip McDonagh, Director of the Centre for Religion, Human Values, and International Relations at the Dublin City University. 📰 Read the Press Release

22/09 - On the occasion of the 2022 COMECE Autumn Assembly and in the context of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Bishops of the European Union warmly invite you to participate in the ‘Mass for Europe’ to be celebrated at the Church of Notre-Dame des Victoires au Sablon, Place du Grand Sablon, Bruxelles, on Wednesday 12 October 2022 at 19:00 (CET). The Mass will be presided by H.Em. Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ and concelebrated by the Bishops Delegates of the Episcopates of the 27 EU Member States.
