🔴 COMECE Plenary Assembly | EU Bishops appeal for peace in Ukraine and in the whole of Europe

14/10 - Gathered in Brussels on 12-14 October 2022, the Plenary Assembly of the Bishop Delegates of the EU Episcopates made a strong appeal to Russia to immediately suspend the hostilities against Ukraine and to all parties to work towards a solution to the conflict. They also encouraged strong EU cohesion.

Franz-Josef Overbeck (Germany) appeared on EWTN News Nightly to describe the peace appeal for Ukraine and the whole of Europe launched by the COMECE Plenary Assembly, as well as to express EU Bishops' concerns about the serious humanitarian, geopolitical and socio-economic implications of the war.

20/10 - Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, General Secretary of COMECE, participated in the high-level conference "Freedom of religion with regard to religious slaughter", organised in Brussels by the European Commission.
|
During his intervention, Fr. Barrios Prieto highlighted the contribution of the Catholic Church in the protection and promotion of Freedom of Religion in the EU and stressed "the need to work 'with each other' and 'for each other' in the promotion of FoRB in Europe".

NEWS | COMECE at the Krakow Conference on Ukraine: "The current situation requires a strong sense of European unity"
|
|
20/10 - COMECE participated in the International Krakow Conference on the "Role of the Christians in the Process of European Integration" and focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine. COMECE General Secretary Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto: "The current situation may give birth to a new Europe, a Europe of values and not of particular interests, a Europe of open arms and not walls, a Europe for which human dignity, justice, freedom, and democracy are key principles for peace."

On Saturday 20 October, the participants of the conference will also be addressed by Mgr. László Német and Mgr. Joseph Soueif will address the conference. The event was held in Krakow (Poland) on 21-22 October 2022. It was organised by the Tadeusz Pieronek and co-organised by COMECE, EPP Group, and the Polish Delegation in the EPP.

INTERNSHIP | Young human rights defender from Brazil starts her internship at COMECE
|
|
10/10 - Marina Paula Oliveira is a young Brazilian human righs and environment defender who has just started her internship at the Secretariat of COMECE following the External Action of the European Union. She studied International Relations, worked for Caritas Brazil and the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte and supported indigenous communities in the Amazon.
