🔴 STATEMENT | COMECE on the war in Ukraine: “what else must happen so that finally an end is put to this madness of war?”

16/11 - In the context of recent events in Ukraine and Poland, COMECE released a statement elaborated by the COMECE Commission on the External Relations of the EU during its second annual meeting.
This statement follows COMECE Assembly's strong appeal to Russian authorities to "immediately to suspend the hostilities, and to all parties to open themselves up, with the help of the international community, to negotiation of ‘serious proposals’ for a just peace, to work towards a solution to the conflict, which respects international law and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.” The COMECE Commission on EU External Relations was chaired by H.E. Mgr. Rimantas Norvila.

NEWS | Mgr. Norvila chairs the meeting of the COMECE Commission on EU External Relations

16/11 - H.E. Mgr. Rimantas Norvila chaired the second 2022 meeting of the COMECE Commission on the EU External Relations focused on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and on the situation in Lebanon. The meeting also featured the participation of H. E. Mgr. Joseph Soueif, Maronite Archbishop of Tripoli. In the context of this meeting, the Commission elaborated a short statement following the incident at the border between Ukraine and Poland.
The COMECE Commission on EU External Relations is composed of experts delegated by the Bishops' Conferences of the EU Member States.

15/11 - Following the COP27 climate conference in Egypt, the European Laudato Si' Alliance (ELSiA) hosted a webinar to explore solutions to maximize the impact of Catholics in the environmental crisis.
The event featured the participation of Fr. Eduardo Agosta and Fr. Charles Chilufya, Senior Adviser of the Laudato Si' Movement and Director of the Jesuit Ecology Network Africa respectively. The video recording of the event will be available in the next days.

NEWS | Churches meet with the EU Agency for Asylum to exchange on religious conversions

12/11 - COMECE met with EU officers from the EU Agency for Asylum (EUAA) in Malta along with colleagues from the Churches' Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) and the European Evangelical Alliance, to exchange on religious conversions in the context of asylum application process.

Sustainability | COMECE participates in ELSiA eco-spirituality workshop at Taizé Community

11-13/11 - General Secretary Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto guided a COMECE delegation to the Taizé Community in France for an Eco-spirituality workshop organised by the European Laudato Si' Alliance (ELSiA). Fr. Barrios Prieto: "Thank you to the brothers of Taizé for their hospitality and thank you to all participants for the fruitful exchange on ecological conversion".

COMECE will host a Working Breakfast with H.E. Mgr. Samson Shukardin, Bishop of the Diocese of Hyderabad (Pakistan). The event is organised by Ait to the Church in Need.
