22/03 - In a statement released on Wednesday 22 March in view of today's tragic anniversary since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Card. Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ, President of COMECE, reiterated EU Bishops' appeal to Russia to “immediately suspend the hostilities and withdraw its armed forces, in full respect of international law and the territorial integrity of Ukraine”

The COMECE President also expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts of European decision-makers in providing humanitarian, financial, political, as well as adequate and proportionate military support to Ukraine, and encouraged European leaders to “maintain their unity in solidarity with Ukraine during and also after the war, while not giving in to fatigue or indifference”.

NEWS | Meeting of the COMECE Working Group on Ethics. Focus on the energy crisis and ethics of the genome editing

14/02 - General Secretary Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto presided over the COMECE Working Group on Ethics, which focused on the ethics of genome editing, as well as on the impacts of the energy crisis on the field of ecology and agriculture. The meeting gathered the experts delegated by the EU Bishops' Conferences, coordinated by theologian Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Agius and COMECE Adviser Friederike Ladenburger. The working group featured dialogue sessions with EU officers.

15/02 - COMECE has hosted a meeting of the Brussels-based Catholic organisations working with the institutions of the European Union. The meeting was an occasion to listen and share projects, concerns, initiatives, good practices and dreams so as to strengthen the cooperation for more effective promotion of EU policies centered on the dignity of persons, families, communities, and care for the environment.

16-18/02 - In the context of the ongoing Synod, COMECE participated in a 3-day conference organised in the Vatican by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. The event was an occasion to share ideas and contributions for better cooperation between pastors and the laity. COMECE General Secretary Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto commented: "A paradigm shift is needed to become aware that together we constitute the one People of God and that we share a common mission, the mission of Christ".
