To coincide with Europe Day on 9 May 2005, the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) published a text entitled ‘The Future of the European Union and the Responsibility of Catholics’.
This text looks back on the history and the evolution of the European Union as a vector for peace and stability both in Europe and the wider world. It specifically focuses upon the Schuman Declaration and the re-unification of Europe post-1989. It invites all Catholics, Christians and all interested parties in the EU to reflect upon their role and responsibilities as citizens of an enlarged Union and of the challenges which face the EU at this time.
This text will be officially launched on 12 May 2005 by Mgr. Hippolyte Simon, Archbishop of Clermont (France) at a soirée to be attended by Commissioner Figel at the COMECE Secretariat from 19.30.
