Marina Paula Oliveira is a 28-year-old woman from Brazil. Following a mining dam burst in her hometown of Brumadinho, Southern Brazil, in January 2019, she has been fighting for justice and reparation for the victims.

In 2022, she worked at COMECE as an intern in the area of External Affairs of the European Union, focusing mostly on EU-Latin America relations and the protection of human rights defenders. Since 2023, she has been advising the Episcopal Conference of Latin America and the Caribbean (CELAM). Click here to learn more about the award.

COMECE has been accompanying the case of Brumadinho in close dialogue with the local Church and engaged in advocacy for an effective Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive to prevent similar disasters from happening in the future.
