From 2 September 2006, 80 students from 25 countries participate in the 2006 COMECE Summer University. From September 2nd through September 16th, the 7th COMECE Summer University organized in partnership with the Karl Franzens University and the Diocese Graz-Seckau, will take place in Graz (Austria). Its theme is: “European Identity: Policy, Society, Religion”.
The programme is made up of lectures, group- and plenary-discussions. The particular characteristics of this year’s programme are:
• The diversity of the lectures: the key note speech on European Identity will be held by Prof. Dr. Thomas Meyer (Dortmund University), which will be rounded up by judicial, theological and ecumenical seminars. Further lectures will be held by Prof. Stuyt SJ (Holland) and His Excellency Philip MacDonagh.
• The inter-religious shape of the lectures: Prof. Ahmet Alibasic, Sarajevo, on Islam, and Prof. Dr. Alfred Bodenheimer, Heidelberg, on Jewish identity.
• The profile-variety of the participants: this year’s group will be composed of 82 students from different university faculties and 25 countries – Member States, accession countries and neighbouring countries from the EU-zone.
Through the Bologna Process (ECTS) the seminar will be validated for all students at their respective home-universities.
In his letter to the participants, the President of COMECE, the Bishop of Rotterdam Adrianus Van Luyn stated: „I am sure and I wish this by all my heart, that the international Summer School will prove great success for both students and lecturers and that it be to the good of the European Union.“
