Tribute to Cardinal Tauran who died this Friday

It is with great sadness that COMECE became aware of the death of Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

In this role, as well as previously at the Secretariat of State, he has put all his energy into promoting dialogue between men and women throughout the world, while respecting the diversity of their culture and religion.

On various occasions, COMECE had the opportunity to appreciate the lucidity and serenity of Cardinal Tauran’s worldview. As a key actor of the dialogue with the States and of interreligious dialogue, the cardinal will be remembered as a man of faith who until the end engaged all his forces in the service to God and the Neighbor.

COMECE would like to pay tribute to Cardinal Tauran’s resolute commitment, his perseverance and his efforts to understand the other. These qualities are more necessary than ever in today’s world. COMECE extends its most sincere condolences to Pope Francis as well as to the Cardinal’s family and loved ones.
