COMECE discusses Peace, Trade and Development

Under the chairmanship of the COMECE member Bishop for Luxembourg Mgr. Jean-Claude Hollerich, the joint COMECE – Justice & Peace Europe commission on the external relations of the EU exchanged with representatives of the EU on the current issues in EU External Action.

The meeting agenda included a discussion on security & defence, trade defence instruments, the situation in Ukraine and in the Middle East as well as the EU relations with Africa.

With regard to trade defence, the members of the external relations commission discussed the possibilities for strengthening EU´s anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures to address unfair trade practices. In view of the forthcoming EU-Africa Summit, they looked at how young people on both sides could be better involved in the preparations and in the meeting itself. In the discussions on peace and security, the need to promote an integral approach putting the human persons at the centre was stressed.
