The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) and the Chapel for Europe invite you to a commemoration mass for H.E. Mgr. Noël Treanor, on Tuesday, 24 September 2024, at 19:00 at the Chapel for Europe in Brussels.
Archbishop Noël Treanor passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, 11 August 2024. Known for his deep commitment to European integration, his linguistic skills, and his immense experience in European affairs, he served as Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union in his final years.
Mgr. Treanor had a profound understanding of the workings of European institutions. His extensive service included roles as General Secretary of COMECE (1993-2008), Delegate of the Irish Episcopate to COMECE (2009-2022), Vice-President of COMECE (2018-2022), and President of Justice and Peace Europe (2018-2022). In 2022 Pope Francis appointed him as Apostolic Nuncio to the EU.
As Secretary General of COMECE, Mgr. Treanor played a key role in the founding and beginnings of the Chapel for Europe.
Those who had the privilege of meeting him were touched by his kindness, openness, commitment, and humility.
Please join us in prayer as we honor his life and pray for his eternal rest: on Tuesday, 24 September 2024, at 19:00 at the Chapel for Europe (Rue Van Maerlant, 22/24, Brussels).
