On the occasion of Europe Day, today, Saturday 9 May 2026, the president of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), Mgr Mariano Crociata, called for a renewed commitment to the founding values of the European project as a space of peace, solidarity and human dignity. Download the text [EN – IT]

Mgr Crociata’s brief statement follows:

“On this Europe Day, each of us is called to preserve and renew the dream of its founding fathers: a Europe capable of ensuring peace, solidarity and dignity for every person, especially the most vulnerable. Faced with the challenges of our time, may the European Union rediscover the strength of its soul, founded on dialogue, shared responsibility and hope.
9 May is not merely an institutional anniversary, but an invitation to build a Europe that is more united and closer to its citizens, capable of being a voice of fraternity in the world and a bridge between peoples. As Catholic Church in Europe, we continue to support a European project that places the human person and the common good at its centre.”
