European Year of Skills 2023: join dialogue conference on upskilling, training and education in the EU

COMECE invites you to participate in the conference “Grounded in the Present, skilled for the Future” to take place in Brussels on Wednesday 31 May 2023. Registration | Programme

Following the publication of the joint contribution on the European Year of Skills, COMECE and its partners invite you to the conference “Grounded in the Present, skilled for the Future”, addressing reskilling and upskilling in the context of the current challenges of the labour market and in education in the EU. The event will be held at COMECE premises, in Brussels, on Wednesday 31 May 2023, from 09:00 to 13:00 (CEST).

The designation of 2023 as the European Year of Skills clearly aims to address the current situation of the EU labour market, responding to the shortage of skilled labour across Europe. However, the European Commission’s initiative is inscribed against the backdrop of the harsh demographic crisis, manifold educational challenges and migratory issues, which permeate the context of skills provision in the EU.

The event will offer a space for a constructive dialogue amongst participants to understand skills far beyond competitiveness and employability. Three panels will spur reflection on skills for the ecological conversion, the inclusiveness and responsibility of digital spaces, as well as informal skills learnt in the family and the role of vocational training in tackling social exclusion as part of the equation.

The conference is co-organised by COMECE, Don Bosco International (DBI) and the Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe (FAFCE), in cooperation with the Brussels office of Evangelische Kirche Deutschland (EKD) and the European Laudato Si’ Alliance (ELSiA).

Due to the limited seats for physical attendance, we invite you to register. Online participation is not available. Registration is mandatory.
