Europe’s vocation to promote peace in the world COMECE 2016 Spring Plenary Assembly

This spring, the Plenary Assembly of the 27 Member Bishops of COMECE will be held in Brussels. The main theme for this meeting will be “Europe’s vocation to promote peace in the world”.

The COMECE Bishops will be briefed by experts on the geopolitical situation at EU’s Eastern and Southern borders and new security challenges. They will also hear a theological and ethical reflection on the value of Peace by Fr Seán Healy, Social Justice Ireland, Member of the Board.

Ms Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has been invited to address the Bishops of COMECE on the emerging profile of a new EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy.

They will also examine a draft report on Europe’s Vocation to Promote Peace in the World prepared by the joint COMECE/Justice & Peace Europe Commission on the external relations of the EU.

Concerning the refugee crisis, Bishop Ägidius Zsifkovics will report on recent COMECE initiatives and their outcome to the Bishops.

The Plenary Assembly is not open to the public.
