EU-Africa partnership: Returning (to) cultural heritage

1 December 2021 - 14:00 - 15:30 -

The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) invites you to join the webinar “Returning (to) cultural heritage”, aiming to discuss the role of cultural and religious heritage in the EU-Africa partnership. The event will take place online on Wednesday 1 December 2021 at 14:00 (CET). Click here to register

The event will be an occasion to reflect jointly with policy-makers, Church representatives and practitioners from Europe and Africa on the role of cultural and religious heritage as one of the most valuable drivers of social cohesion, intercultural encounter as well as economic and human development.

As a bearer of a highly rich and diverse culture, the African Union (AU) has been keen on valorising cultural heritage through its 2021 thematic year “Art, Culture and Heritage: Levers for building the Africa we want”. The COMECE webinar will explore how the European Union could better respond to this call for cherishing common religious and cultural heritage in the EU-Africa partnership.

In view of the upcoming EU-AU Summit and promoting an authentic “culture of dialogue”, as highlighted in Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter “Fratelli Tutti”, participants will also debate strategies for rediscovering the importance of cultural cooperation, especially drawing upon the peace-building potential of cultural heritage.
