The successful event, held at the Chapel for Europe in the context of COMECE’s 2026 Autumn Assembly, brought together representatives of the Holy See and the European institutions, policymakers, experts in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other stakeholders to reflect on the future of AI and its effects on society, as well as on the implications of Magnifica humanitas for Europe.

The event featured a keynote address by H.E. Mgr Paul Tighe, Secretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See, followed by a panel discussion with MEP Antonella Sberna, Vice-President of the European Parliament in charge of the implementation of Article 17 TFEU; MEP Michael McNamara, Co-Chair of the European Parliament’s AI Working Group; Ms Anna A. MacMillan, CSO & Board Member of the Domus Communis Foundation; and Mr Enrico Rubboli, Founder & CEO of Mintlayer. The discussion was moderated by Mr Leonardo Cervera-Navas, Secretary-General of the European Data Protection Supervisor.

The programme also included a Q&A session, giving participants attending both in person and online the opportunity to engage with the speakers.

Pope Leo XIV’s first Encyclical Letter, Magnifica humanitas, published in May 2026, reflects on how Artificial Intelligence can remain at the service of the human person, with particular attention to human dignity, work, social justice and the common good. The Brussels presentation provided an opportunity to consider these questions from a European perspective.

Those who were unable to attend the event in Brussels or follow it online can now watch the entire presentation, including the keynote address, panel discussion and Q&A session, on the COMECE YouTube channel. Click here to watch it now: Part 1 – Part 2 – Part 3
