The meeting was organised in collaboration with the EU office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. The delegation was received by Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, General Secretary of COMECE, together with H.E. Mgr. Franco Coppola, Apostolic Nuncio to Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as representatives of Brussels-based Catholic organisations and of other religious communities.
Among the members of the Ukrainian delegation were His Beatitude Epiphanius (Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine), H.E. Mgr. Vitalii Kryvytskyi (Bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr), Sheikh Akhmed Tamim (Supreme Mufti of Ukraine), and Gennadii Bilorytskyi (Representative of the Union of Jewish Religious Organizations of Ukraine).
On Friday 17 June 2022, COMECE released the statement ‘Europe, renew your vocation to promote peace’ elaborated by the COMECE Commission on the EU External Relations in view of the 23-24 June meeting of the European Council.
The statement calls on the European Union to fully realise the importance of its role to offer a renewed strategic vision for stability, justice, and peace to the European continent and to the world. This includes a renewal of the efforts for peace in Ukraine and the implementation of a credible EU enlargement process.
