During their first official meeting since the election of Mgr. Hollerich in March 2018, the two leaders exchanged on current European challenges and explored ways to strengthen the dialogue between the Church and the EU in order to put back the human person at the center of public policies.

The meeting was cordial and lasted one hour. President Juncker acknowledged the positive role of the Church in the society, while Archbishop Hollerich recalled the need to base the political process on dialogue and harmony between all political, social, cultural and religious actors.

The President of COMECE emphasized the importance of respecting the rule of law and achieving policies that serve the common good. He also highlighted the need to build bridges between the different regions of Europe.

On the same day, Archbishop Hollerich met with Mgr. Lebeaupin, Apostolic Nuncio to the EU, and with Luca Jahier, newly-elected President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), in order to discuss current high-priority social and economical questions.

Today the President met with Ambassador Georges Friden, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the EU.
