Cardinal Bassetti’s visit shows the European dimension of the Italian Church, strongly committed to face current challenges and work for the common good in a constructive dialogue with the EU institutions.

Italy is living delicate moments. The Catholic Church is playing a key role in the fields of education, health, basic social services, integration and humanitarian action, especially focusing on the weakest.

In his journey to Brussels, Cardinal Bassetti will exchange on these topics, strengthening the constructive dialogue between the Church in Italy and EU policy makers. The President of CEI will be accompanied by Mgr. Mariano Crociata, Vice-President of COMECE, and Mgr. Gianni Ambrosio, Bishop of Piacenza-Bobbio.

The delegation will meet with high-level officials including Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the EU Commission, Luca Jahier from the European Economic and Social Committee, and various Italian MEPs.

During his stay in Brussels, Cardinal Bassetti will celebrate three holy masses: on April 23rd (at 12:30 at the Chapel of COMECE), on April 24th (at 11:30 at the European Parliament, ASP00H152) and on April 25th (at 11:30 at the Chapel of COMECE). Everyone is welcome to join the masses.
