COMECE and CEC hold prayer for peace and Christian unity at European Parliament

To mark Pentecost, the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the EU (COMECE) together with the Conference of European Churches (CEC) held on Tuesday 6 June 2023 a Prayer for Peace and Christian Unity at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event was hosted by MEP Jan Olbrycht.

Prayers and special messages were shared by COMECE President H.E. Mgr. Mariano Crociata and CEC President Rev. Christian Krieger, inspired by the 2023 theme of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity based on the biblical premise of Isaiah 1:12-18 “Do good; seek justice”.

The event was highly attended by MEPs, EU officers and representatives of Brussels-based Christian stakeholders.

The COMECE-CEC joint initiative featured a reflection offered by Prof. Tomáš Halík on the beginnings of the Church at Pentecost as a “sacrament of understanding” and on its role in the current historical moment. Read the full text of the reflection

In his contribution, the President of COMECE addressed the ongoing war in Ukraine and stated: “A just peace has been the incessant and urgent request of the Church and of COMECE.
